A few years ago, I stumbled onto an amazing assortment of well designed greeting cards in a local boutique. They were well spoken. And well designed. So I intentionally, unintentionally bought a dozen or so cards, knowing that I would get around to giving them eventually. With those cards on hand, I found I had outsmarted myself and the need to hit the convenience store the morning of a big occasion.
Having them on hand also helped me more regularly share thoughts, encouragements, little celebrations, and more just because moments.
Often the biggest barrier to giving a card isn't the writing. It's the procurement. You realize someone's birthday is tomorrow, and you don't have a card. Or time to make it to the store. So the moment passes.
There's a better way, and it's not complicated: stockpile cards before you need them.
Buy a bunch. Tuck a few in your work bag. Drop a couple in the car console. Stash a handful in your office drawer. Stock your Sock Drawer. The goal is to make "I'd like to give them a card" and "I have a card right here" happen at the same time.
Give yourself the gift of the downhill slope for being intentional.
